Meet Your Instructor

My name is Hyejin Park, pronounced “Hey” like a greeting, and “Gin” like the liquor. 😊

Growing up in South Korea, where academic success in math puts high pressure on students, I often found myself seeking my father's help when I was studying at home. However, his attempts to assist me often ended in frustration and arguments, as he couldn't understand why I couldn’t grasp the concepts, and I couldn't understand his reactions to my difficulties.

During my university years, I discovered a passion for tutoring math. Witnessing my students' progress brought me immense joy and inspired me to pursue a degree in education when I moved to Canada. After graduating with distinction, I started my career in an elementary school.

As a teacher and continuing as a math tutor, I encountered many students like myself who could benefit from support at home but were not receiving it due to various reasons such as parents not knowing how to effectively support their child, lack of time, or failure to recognize when their child needed help.

I began envisioning how to best support students not only through the efforts of teachers and tutors, but also by closely involving parents during their elementary years when the foundation of math skills is being laid. This led to the creation of Family Math Connections, inspired by the growth and improvement witnessed in students, not just in their math skills but also in their family bonds.

In my role as a math consultant, collaborating closely with teachers and math educators, our discussions often revolve around the crucial role of parental involvement in education.

It is my sincere hope that this course will empower you to connect with your child and confidently guide their math learning.

I look forward to connecting with you in the course!

Isn't it the teacher's job to teach math?

Your child's teacher is crucial for math learning, but you, as a parent, are their most influential teacher. While teachers have your child for just a year, you witness their entire math progress. Missing signs of struggle in the early years can hinder catching up in the upper grades.

Your involvement, support, and encouragement at home during elementary years can significantly impact your child's math learning and attitude towards math.

How much math do I need to know?

This course is designed for parents of Pre-K to Grade 6 students who are seeking to support their child's math education. If you have a grasp of mathematical concepts at the elementary level, you should find the examples shared in the videos easy to follow and understand. You don't need to be a math expert to support your child; your enthusiasm and willingness to learn alongside them can foster their love for math and help them succeed.

How much math does my kid need to know?

This course is not teaching your child. It is designed for you, the parent, to learn how to effectively support your child wherever they are at.

How long will I have access to the program?

You'll enjoy lifetime access to the program. As I address questions and cover additional topics, I'll update the course with new content - included in the original price.
